You can start Odoo for the price of one app and one user. Then the team grows, the apps multiply, and the invoice is a number nobody planned for.

That isn’t a flaw in Odoo. It’s what happens when a modular ERP meets a small team that only needed a place to run clients, projects and invoices.

This post compares the two honestly: what Odoo does well, where it gets expensive or heavy for small service businesses, and where Crittiks is the wrong choice.

Explore the plans: see Crittiks pricing or try the savings calculator on the pricing page.

What Odoo Offers

Odoo is a modular business suite with a very wide catalogue of apps. Its real strengths:

  • Breadth. Accounting, inventory, manufacturing, purchasing, HR, point of sale, e-commerce, website builder and more, in one vendor.
  • Modularity. You can start with one app and add others as you grow.
  • Customisation. Deep configuration and a large partner ecosystem.
  • Open-source roots. A Community edition exists, and self-hosting is possible.
  • Global footprint. Localisations for many countries and tax regimes.

If your business makes physical products, holds stock, or needs a single system of record across operations and accounting, Odoo is a serious option, and Crittiks is not trying to replace it.

Where Odoo Falls Short for Small Service Teams

1. Per-user pricing scales with headcount. Every person you add increases the bill, and so does every additional app you rely on. A team that grows from 5 to 15 triples the licence cost, even if usage is unchanged.

2. Implementation is a real cost. Odoo is configurable, which means it usually needs configuring. Odoo’s pricing page notes that implementation services are not included in its plans, so a small team should budget for partner help, or for the time it takes to do the work themselves.

3. Breadth means complexity. A service business using Odoo for clients, projects and invoices is navigating a system designed to also run a factory. More menus, more settings, more to learn.

4. Self-hosting is a burden. The free Community edition and self-hosted options need someone to maintain servers, updates and backups. For a small team, that someone is usually you.

5. Connected out of the box is not the same as connected well. Modules from one vendor share a database, but getting CRM, projects, e-signature and invoicing to behave as one client workflow often takes configuration work.

The Real Cost Difference

The table below compares Crittiks on annual billing (20% off) with Odoo Standard at about US$24.90 per user per month on annual billing (the first-12-month rate). Crittiks pricing assumes $8 per additional seat beyond a tier’s allowance, with the annual discount applied.

Team sizeCrittiks (per month, annual)Odoo Standard (per month, annual)Difference
3$79.96$74.70Odoo about $5 cheaper
5$79.96$124.50Crittiks saves $44.54 (36%)
8$79.96$199.20Crittiks saves $119.24 (60%)
10$92.76$249.00Crittiks saves $156.24 (63%)
15$111.96$373.50Crittiks saves $261.54 (70%)
25$175.96$622.50Crittiks saves $446.54 (72%)

Two honest caveats:

  • These percentages are only like-for-like for the suites Crittiks includes. Odoo’s price covers apps Crittiks doesn’t have, such as inventory, manufacturing and HR. If you need those, you aren’t comparing the same thing.
  • Odoo’s first-year rate is not its ongoing rate. Odoo’s pricing page shows US$31.10 per user per month on annual billing, with a discount valid for 12 months for initial users. At US$31.10, the crossover moves to about 3 users and the savings range widens to roughly 49% to 77% for teams of 5 to 25.

Where Odoo is cheaper: teams of 1 to 3 who need only one or two apps. Odoo also lists a One App Free plan (one app, unlimited users) on its pricing page as of October 2026, which is hard to beat on price for a solo operator.

The Time Lost Switching

Switching cost matters more than licence cost for most small teams.

  • Odoo to Crittiks. Odoo is not one of Crittiks’ listed migration sources today. If you’re moving from Odoo, contact support@crittiks.com to discuss what can be imported and what needs a manual export.
  • Setup time. Crittiks is built to be used without an implementation project. Odoo’s setup depends heavily on which apps you enable and how much you customise.
  • What you’d lose. If you rely on Odoo’s inventory, manufacturing, HR or deep accounting, moving to Crittiks means keeping a system for those functions. In that case, don’t switch.

Who Should Choose Which

Choose Odoo if:

  • you sell physical products or hold inventory
  • you manufacture, or need purchasing and stock control
  • you need HR, payroll or point-of-sale in the same system
  • you have a partner or in-house person to configure it
  • you’re a team of 1 to 3 who needs one or two apps

Choose Crittiks if:

  • you run a service business: consultancy, advisory, agency, trade or professional services
  • your team is roughly 4 to 25 people
  • you want CRM, projects, e-signatures, communications, invoicing and AI in one workspace, at one price
  • you don’t have the time or budget for an implementation project
  • you’d rather not see your bill rise with every new hire

What It Costs at 5, 8, 10 and 15 Users

10 users$115.95$92.76US$249–US$311
15 users$139.95$111.96US$374–US$466

The Odoo column multiplies the per-user range quoted earlier in this post (as listed by Odoo, in the currency shown, not converted) by team size, and covers that one tool only. Crittiks figures are as published at crittiks.com/pricing. Crittiks figures include all six suites; Pro covers up to 8 seats, extra seats are $8 a month, and Platinum covers up to 15. List prices change and vendor discounts vary, so treat this as a guide and check current pricing on both sites.

Who Should Choose Odoo, and Who Should Choose Crittiks

Odoo fits best when its specialist strengths are central to your business and you are happy to run it alongside other tools.

Crittiks fits best when you are a small service team, roughly 4 to 25 people, who want sales, projects, e-signature, communications, finance and AI on one client record at a predictable price. For one to three users with a single need, a point tool is often cheaper. If you need ERP-level inventory or manufacturing, neither tool is the answer on its own.

A Switching Checklist: Moving From Odoo to Crittiks

  1. Decide which Odoo apps you actually use for service delivery.
  2. Export contacts, deals, projects and invoices.
  3. Keep Odoo (or an accounting system) for inventory, manufacturing or deep accounting if you need them.
  4. Pilot one client end to end in Crittiks.
  5. Plan the cut-over around a billing cycle.

Crittiks has a built-in migration tool with a preview-before-you-commit step. For help with a specific source, contact support@crittiks.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Crittiks a replacement for Odoo?

Only for service businesses that use Odoo mainly for clients, projects and invoicing. Crittiks does not offer inventory, manufacturing, HR or point-of-sale.

How much does Odoo cost for a small team?

Odoo’s published Standard rate is about US$24.90 per user per month on annual billing for the first 12 months (US$31.10 afterwards), though it varies by region and plan, and customisation and integration work is typically extra. Always confirm at odoo.com/pricing.

Does Crittiks charge per user?

Not in the usual sense. Each tier includes a seat allowance (8 on Pro, 15 on Platinum, 30 on Diamond). Extra seats cost $8 per month each. Enterprise is custom pricing.

Can I import my Odoo data into Crittiks?

Odoo is not a listed migration source yet. Contact support@crittiks.com and we’ll tell you what’s possible for your data.

Does Crittiks do accounting?

Crittiks handles invoicing and payment records and syncs two ways with Xero and QuickBooks. It is not a full accounting system, and it doesn’t replace one.

Can I switch from Odoo to Crittiks?

Yes. Crittiks has a built-in migration tool with a preview-before-you-commit step. Whether Odoo is a supported import source depends on the tool, so contact support@crittiks.com before you plan the move, and use the checklist above to keep it orderly.
